Urban backyard camp-out

Last weekend my daughter had a sleepover with her best friend. She has known her since she was 6 months old, and they had their first sleepover when they where 2 years old. Since then they have had many sleepovers at each other’s houses, but this weekend they had their first urban backyard campout on the second floor balcony of our house.

This is how we did our urban campout

We put up a small tent that fits on our balcony and put a mattress with blankets inside. On the day, we spent most our time outside and the girls played in the backyard in the sprinkler, cooked and ate outside and made BBQ pizza outside (click here for BBQ pizza).

When it was story time, it was read campfire style without using any books, (though without any scary stuff) just using plain old storytelling art.

The girls talked and shared stories for a while in the dark, till I finally heard it was quiet. Next morning they woke up and said they had a wonderful campout. The best part for them was the feeling they were sleeping by themselves without adults.

Since our first backyard campout we have had many camp out in our backyard. A least once a year, we also often do this before we go on camping trips to make sure our tent is still in a good condition.
