I have lived in Toronto for more than 30 years, and you know what, every single day I make a conscious decision to find something new to love. I’ll confess that doing this exercise on my own was always easy and magical, but, becoming a parent has introduced me to so many new-to-me Toronto treasures. I’m so grateful to our children for helping me discover the ‘other’ Toronto.

This other I speak of is actually intangible, it is the Toronto I have seen through their eyes, and although I am seeing things I’ve seen before, I am experiencing new feelings, new emotions; they have pointed out beauty, absurdity, symmetry and colour, they have given me new language and new textures to things I’d only remembered as words. I have been given a new lense on my creativity. Toronto adventures, with kids-in-tow, have given my life such richness that I am now ready to write a book that in the past I only dreamed of.
