Camp food fun for kids

We had a wonderful camping trip at Pukaskwa National Park. It was everything I was longing for. It got us lots of wilderness and some great hiking opportunities. Though I love to be outside in the city, I love to get outdoors in the wilderness. (I live in the fourth largest city in North America) Getting our family out to faraway camping sites just doesn’t happen as much as I would like. So, I have to find creative ways to get simple outdoor experiences for the family. If you can’t get out to a campground try investing in a fire pit for your backyard. It is a great way to get your family outdoors and to enjoy the outdoors longer as the weather starts to get colder.
On this camping trip we tried out:
Baked cupcakes in oranges
Popping popcorn on open fire
Roasted marshmallows dipped in chocolate

Baking Cupcakes in oranges
You need: Oranges
Chocolate baking mix
This is how you do it: Slice the top of each orange and cut a little slice of the bottom so it stays stable at the surface. Scoop out all the flesh. Mix the chocolate mix in a bowl according to instructions and fill the oranges 2/3 full with cake batter. Put the orange lid over the orange. Put the filled oranges on the coals of the camp firer it will take about 10 minutes to bake them or bake them for 25 minutes on barbecue.

Popping popcorn:
You need:
Aluminum foil
Salt
Oil
Popping Corn
This is how you do it: Create a pouch out of 2 to 3 layers of aluminum foil add popping corn and oil. Seal the foil all around making sure you leave room for the popped kernels. Put on hot coals of the fire, but make sure there are minimal flames. After you hear the popping stop remove, salt and add butter if you like.

Roasted marshmallows dipped in chocolate :Melt some chocolate and roast some marshmallows over the campfire. I don’t roast the marshmallows to s’more levels (super gooey) but heat and brown them so they still hold together when you dip them into your chocolate sauce.

What do you like to cook on the campfire?
