Beach Craft from Courtney

I wish I had some action shots, but I was too covered in plaster of paris to take pictures!  We had a wonderful turnout today- 33 people including 2 adorable little sibling additions to the playgroup- our youngest attendee was 6 weeks old!  Today we met at the beach where we collected rocks and shells and other found objects to use in some plaster sand castings.  The kids found some creative things to put in there- a lego, bottle caps, a stray crab leg.  It was very entertaining.  They dug a shallow hold in the sand, pushed the objects in face down and then we covered it in plaster and put a paper clip hook in the back so when it was finished drying the kids could take it home and hang it on the wall, like the picture of my son’s casting, above.  I brought some glass pebbles for them to use and he used them liberally because he liked them so much.

We had some rain on and off, but it didn’t affect the plaster and it was right at the end that it really started coming down, so I think we fared pretty well despite the weather.  Have to take advantage of those warm days and wading in the beach water while we can.
