Dress the youngster’s warmly; grab the summer picnic blanket, your favorite Valentine picnic treats and head out to have an afternoon of winter fun. It is no snow at Toronto at the moment so I think it safe to say that we will be skating for our outdoor valentine picnic this year in our community ice rink close to our house if the winter will stay in Toronto.
Location
Regardless if you are planning a Valentine picnic with the kiddos or a romantic date with your partner you have to plan where you are going to have it. When our kids were little we had many picnics close to home, often in our local park or even in our backyard. Valentine picnics after skating at our local ice rink was always popular. Bringing a Valentine picnic with us on Nordic skiing trips and on hikes was always a winner in our family.
What to sit on
Here you can be so elaborate as you want, no limit if you are staying close to home. If you are going on outdoor adventures it is best to be simple and choose light weight option. We often found that a foam pad or a blanket worked well on our outdoor adventures.
Plan your menu
It of course depends on where you live if you have cold winters or warm winters. We live in a place with cold winters so for us it is best to plan to bring some hot food beverages with some Valentine treats. We love hot thermos picnics warm sandwiches and treat that are kept warm in an insulated bag. Beverages and hot lunches are kept warm in thermoses.
Valentine treats we like to bring with us:
Chicken soup with dumplings in a thermos
Norwegian heart shaped waffles
