I hope you are out enjoying nature this summer regardless if it is in the city or out in the wild nature. Having a campfire brings back many childhood memories for me camping with my family. I still remember the epiphany I experienced eating my first smore. Who knew what kind of magic you could create with a marshmallow, chocolate and two graham crackers.
But these kinds of memories are created with a bit of responsibility in mind. The fact that there are wildfires burning in California, Washington state, British Columbia and Russia brings home the message that perfect camping memories can turn into disaster if fires are not properly built and tended.
Smokey the Bear was the first environmentalist who was introduced to me when I was a child and first taught me about forest fires 35 years ago. The Ad Council has started a new campaign called, “Get your Smokey On” bringing his message to a new generation of outdoor enthusiast.
I hope you are creating new outdoor memories with your families, but use caution. As Smokey Bear says: “Get Your Smokey On”
