However you celebrate this Holidays season, it is an excellent time of year to do some craft together with your family. In my family we are celebrating Christmas. I remember my childhood with found memoires of gingerbread cookies and making Christmas decorations with my mom. I feel so lucky to continue this tradition with my children today. Nature offers some great opportunities for making Christmas ornaments; in our family we use natural elements in our Christmas creations. Of course…
Christmas branch
Go for hikes or investigate your backyard and find twigs, pinecones, branches and straw. Maybe you have some evergreens in your yard you can use. Did you or your neighbor trim the evergreen hedges? Grab a bag and have your little one help collect them so you can make wreaths out of what you have collected on your trips.
Here are a few ideas you can do together with your found natural elements.

Brush
Use a brush to apply glue on pinecones. Sprinkle glitter and you have a festive pinecone. This is a perfect craft for little hands and can be used on table settings, wreaths and tree decorations.

Evergreens
Wires
Ribbons
Gather twigs and vines together from your garden and bind it together in a circle. Use wire to attach evergreen branches on the wreath. Attach pinecones and other natural materials on the wreath.

Bulbs (buy ready to sprout paper white at a florist or garden center)

Have a bowl of water, soil, moss and bulbs. Let your child wrap soil around bulbs like a mud pie. Wrap moss around it and bind them with wire. Depending how old your child is, you may have to help them out. Spray it daily with water.
Put cloves in clementines.
Let your children decorate the centerpieces with candles, clementines and pinecones. Make sure you water your bulbs and hopefully the paperwhites are blooming before Christmas!
